Description:
On July 13, 2021, a fire of unknown cause was reported in the Monitor area, northwest of Wenatchee, Washington. Local fire districts; Washington Department of Natural Resources; Bureau of Land Management; and U.S. Forest Service crews responded that evening. On July 15, an engine crew is assigned to an active flank of the fire, given a scouting mission to evaluate containment opportunities. While scouting, the engine boss stepped out of the black to get fresh air when the fire switched directions quickly overtook his position, resulting in burn injuries.
