On July 7, 2026, Fire Safety Chief Dan Hernandez Jr. responded to a brush fire. While at the scene of the fire, Fire Safety Chief Hernandez suffered a cardiovascular event. He was transported to a regional medical center where he was stabilized. He was then transferred to another hospital where, despite all efforts, he passed away on July 11, 2026.
