Description:
The January 2025 fires in Southern California occurred during a period of extreme fire weather characterized by powerful Santa Ana winds, critically dry vegetation, and conditions conducive to rapid fire spread.
The Palisades and Eaton Fires ignited on January 7, 2025, less than eight hours apart and approximately 30 miles from one another. These two fires would ultimately be counted among the most deadly, destructive, and costly disasters in California history.
