Upper Smith Fire UTV Rollover RLS 2026

On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a UTV with 5 crew members on board, became out of control while attempting to drive up a steep dirt road. As the vehicle began to roll backward down the hill, the driver repeatedly attempted alternating between the gas and brakes.
The brakes did not engage. The UTV quickly rolled backward and over the embankment at the road’s edge. The UTV rolled sideways two to four times over approximately 60 feet in distance and came to rest on the passenger side—with all crew members still secured in place by their seat belts.
