Description:
Richard Gell, about 60 years of age, a Canadian-American World War I veteran, was mobilized to the Canyon Creek Fire, Trinity National Forest, California, from his home in Eureka, CA. The fire was near Derrick, CA. On August 26, 1929, a burned and unidentifiable body was discovered in the vicinity of Fisher Gulch on Canyon Creek. Employment rolls indicated that only Richard Gell was unaccounted for. No family in Canada or the United States could be located at the time of his death, and he was buried in Weaverville, CA. The Canyon Creek Fire was contained at 1500 acres.
