Puerto Rico Pack Test Fatality 2018

    On January 26, 2018 the Puerto Rico Fire Department conducted a work capacity test for those members of the interagency wildland fire program who had received the approval of the medical test that authorizes them to take the WCT. During the test, firefighter Omar Vega Rivera collapsed, hitting the ground with his face without raising his hands to break his fall. Responders immediately began to administer CPR, and subsequently transported to the hospital emergency room with a Fire Department vehicle. CPR continued at the hospital, where Rivera was eventually pronounced dead after 55 minutes of resuscitation efforts.
